«En velskrevet sang er en roman på tre minutter»
Nora Roll Gulbrandsen fra Elverum har egentlig alltid vært en teaterjente. Men som 13-åring begynner hun å snikstjele søsterens ukulele og herved lefle med tanken om å lytte til magefølelsen sin som hele veien har dratt henne mot musikk. Hun synger seg til landsfestivalen på UKM, oppdager Trøndertun Folkehøyskole, og bærer av sted til LIMPI (Lillehammer Institute of Music Production & Industries).
Signaturen hennes skal være det uperfekte, og hun skriver personlige, organiske låter basert på et evig langt slam poesi-aktig notat hun har drodlet på telefonen sin siden 2018.
I 2026 signerer hun platekontrakt med Warner Norway og signeres til FKP Scorpio Norge. Hun som alltid har spilt teater får sommerfugler i magen av at forestillingen som nå skal settes opp er henne selv. Det som til nå har vært så abstrakt skal snart eksistere i flere hoder enn bare hennes eget. Innen dette året er omme skal hun si med chest at «Jeg, jeg er artist».

Nora Roll Gulbrandsen grows up in a house in Elverum, together with her mom, dad, older sister, and the family cat, Knerten. Nora is a curious child, she asks many questions and has many thoughts. It’s the theatre that will later prove to be the starting point for Nora, and for what is now the artist Nora Roll. Her theatre teacher suggests she should take singing lessons, and there she truly finds her place. Nora, who has always wanted to do what her older sister does, she was going to become an actress like her, but now, at sixteen, she buys herself a T-shirt with a guitar on it. She wants to show the world that she is interested in music.
In 2022, she sings her way to the national finals of UKM with her own version of Sondre Justad’s “Nuhardumæ,” and there she discovers the Trøndertun folk high school on a stand. From there, things move quickly. A year at Trøndertun gives her the opportunity to perform at Trondheim Calling, and from there it leads straight to Limpi college in Lillehammer. She writes personally, about what she has experienced, often in the endlessly long note she has been writing in on her phone since 2018.
A well-written song is a novel in three minutes, Nora believes. She teaches herself to play the guitar, not perfectly, but that’s exactly how it’s supposed to sound. That imperfection becomes her signature. Her music is meant to be organic, with real instrumentalists. When you hear a violin, it’s a violinist who has played it. Most likely Nora herself.
Nora, who originally only planned to spend one year at folk high school to test how deep her interest in music really went, signs a record deal with Warner Music in 2026 as an artist. Even though she writes from her 21-year-old perspective, she hopes her songs can resonate widely, and that those who need them will find them.
Having always been involved in theatre, she now feels butterflies at the thought that the performance being staged is herself. Her project. What until now has been abstract, just Dropbox links with a few songs, lyrics in a phone note, and countless thoughts in her head, will now exist for more people than just her. Before the year is over, she, Nora Roll from Elverum, will be able to say with her full chest: “I, I am an artist.”
