Historiske nikk i kontemporær kontekst
Sverre Sæbø Quintet har de siste årene etablert seg som et anerkjent navn på jazzscenen i Norge. Våren 2025 slapp de sitt debutalbum, "If, however, you have not lost your self control" på plateselskapet Sauajazz til til lovord fra norsk og internasjonal jazzpresse. Plateslippet ble fulgt opp med en releaseturne med spillejobber på blant annet Soddjazz, Kongsberg jazzfestival og nå kommer de endelig til Vill Vill Vest!
Kvintetten spiller musikk med en energigivende spilleglede formidlet frem av fem musikere med en kapasitet og vilje man bare må følge med på. Musikken er en livlig blanding av Sæbøs musikalske referanser, med tydelige nikk til jazzhistorien og navn som Don Cherry, Gato Barbieri og Henri Grimes, men samtidig med en kontemporær vridning til et mer moderne nordisk jazzuttrykk. Komposisjonene bærer en følelse av underliggende intensjon som blir løftet til nye høyder av at musikerne knar rytmiske ostinat og melodiske fraser inn til sine personlige uttrykk med utrolig vilje og en sunn dose humor. Kvintetten, bestående av noen av Vestlandets sterkeste unge improvisatoriske stemmer, har de siste årene blitt et mer og mer kjent navn innad i jazzmiljøet i landet og har gjennom konserter på blant annet Kongsbergjazz, Oslojazz og Bergen Jazzforum virkelig etablert seg som et band man må følge med på!

Sverre Sæbø Quintet has in recent years established itself as a recognized group on the Norwegian jazz scene. In spring 2025, they released their debut album “If, however, you have not lost your self control” on the Suajazz label, to critical acclaim from both Norwegian and international jazz press. The release was followed by a tour with performances at festivals such as Soddjazz and the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, and now they’re finally coming to Vill Vill Vest!
The quintet plays with an infectious sense of joy, driven by five musicians whose skill and commitment make them impossible not to pay attention to. Their music is a vibrant blend of Sæbø’s musical references, with clear nods to jazz history and names like Don Cherry, Gato Barbieri, and Henri Grimes, while also carrying a contemporary twist toward a modern Nordic jazz expression. The compositions hold a sense of underlying intention, elevated by the musicians as they shape rhythmic ostinatos and melodic phrases into their own personal expressions, with remarkable drive and a healthy dose of humor.
Consisting of some of Western Norway’s strongest young improvisational voices, the quintet has in recent years become an increasingly prominent name within the country’s jazz community. Through performances at festivals such as Kongsberg Jazz Festival, Oslo Jazz Festival, and Bergen Jazzforum, they have truly established themselves as a band to watch.
